It’s been an interesting and productive year so far and I am enjoying the ride. Just finished writing a full length screenplay and am about to start on the third draft. I love the writing, the creative process. Acting is and will always be my first love and I will continue to do it, whenever and wherever I can, but the writing helps satisfy the creative urges, when the acting work is a bit thin on the ground. And I enjoy the blogging as it’s a nice way to connect to people and share a bit about the Industry I love.
The interesting thing is that we seem to be coming full circle. Once the word was NEVER put anything in writing. Now we put everything in writing…. emails, texts, reports etc, etc and the whole world can watch and see what we are up to. Big Brother has arrived, almost without us noticing. I appeared in a BBC production of George Orwell’s “1984”, back in the day. I played Julia, the girl who falls in love with and ultimately betrays Winston, who betrays her too. Big Brother is too much for both of them and inevitably they fall in with the demands of this controlling society, which breaks their will and destroys their individual freedom. Remind you of anything? Politics, Big Corporations, Big Banks spring to mind. Think old George knew a thing or two about which way society was going and how we would react. I was thrilled and honoured to be a part of it and it’s a bit of work, of which I am proud. I was lucky to be part of that era in the Sixties in which some of the most prolific and interesting work was done on television. I think we have come full circle now and there is some terrific and hugely entertaining, thought provoking work being shown on the small screen now.
Along with that thought provoking work, was the lovely lighter entertainment, in which I appeared: THE SAINT, DANGER MAN (AKA SECRET AGENT), THE AVENGERS, UFO, RANDALL AND HOPKIRK etc, etc (in the UK) and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, MAGNUM, AIRWOLF (in the US)….etc, etc Thanks to that wonderful invention the Internet , which has created a revival of these shows, I seem to have more fans than ever! It makes me very happy that a new and younger generation is enjoying this stuff and the lovely people who were in it and made the shows. I know I loved doing it, all of it and hope for more, acting is my joy and pleasure and I am delighted when I hear from people, who love what I have done too…..thank you!!
Yes, the ’60’s on TV were fun years. There was plenty of ACTION, “shoot-em-up” series, and imaginative stuff like The Avengers (one of my favourites), Star Trek…the list goes on. BUT…they were still innocent and rather sweet, compared to some of the programs which are unavoidable on today’s television. The violence and “bad stuff” committed by the bad guys of the former era were generally off-screen, and we really didn’t have to worry about language or gratuitous violence scaring our children (or us) to death. Now I must go find those lovely TV programs you were in and re-watch…or just wait for them to show up on MeTV !
